Concert: "Long Ago And Far Away" Saturday, May 8th 1993 Sunday, May 9th, 1993 Guest Artist: Cabaret Star, Patricia O'Callaghan Patricia O'Callaghan: She was born and raised in Northern Ontario with a passion for music that was truly inspiring. She began her earliest classical vocal training at the age of 15 years with Rosanne Simunovic and supplemented her classical/theatrical training as a loyal and dedicated member of the Timmins Youth Singers and regular cast member in the numerous musicals produced by Brian Haneberry in her hometown of Iroquois Falls. However, this little Irish nightingale eventually spread her wings and sailed South to the University of Toronto to continue expanding her musical career....but it wasn't too long before her international performances started to garner international raves. Billboard Magazine's editor Timothy White claimed her as "the most promising cabaret artist of her generation" and she was immediately signed to a recording contract with Teldec, a subsidiary of Warner-Brothers. In 1993, Patricia returned to her choral alma mater as guest artist for the Timmins Youth Singers' 15th Anniversary Celebration to perform a stunning rendition of Francis Poulenc's "Gloria" as well as several selections from musicals. She was superbly accompanied by the Timmins Youth Singers Alumni Choir. The concert was repeated the following month at the International Choral Festival in Toronto to rave reviews. Concert: "A Celebration Of Youth" Sunday, April 12, 1987 Guest Artist: Phantom Of The Opera Star, Gregory Cross Stratford Festival Star, Henry Ingram Guest Pianist: Brahm Goldhamer Gregory Cross and Henry Ingram: What an evening of musical magic...a stellar choir, two amazing guest artists and one unbelievable pianist! This concert was vocal music at its best. The choir, although young, was comprised of immensely gifted singers who so beautifully complimented the vocal talents of Gregory Cross and Henry Ingram. In addition, the evening featured many outstanding TYS soloists and culminated with an outstanding sequence of songs from Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story that left the audience clamoring for more! Henry Ingram came to this production with many diverse performing credentials in his background, most notably, as a major performer with the Stratford Festival. He now is a very successful manager with Dean Artists Management. Gregory had just graduated from the University Of Toronto's Opera School, but his outstanding talent was very evident. It is not surprising when, two years later, he landed the role of Firmin in the Canadian Production of "Phantom Of The Opera". Conductor Rosanne Simunovic and Gregory Cross' paths would cross 14 years later...on May 16th 2001....the Scenes From A Dream CD Release party in Timmins. Gregory Cross generously donated his time to come to Timmins to perform as well as support the CD that featured many of his outstanding solos during the 1987 concert. His presence at the CD Release was a memorable success and had Timmins "buzzing" for weeks after. Truly a night to remember!! Concert: "Spring Concert" Sunday, April 14, 1985 Guest Artist: Stratford Festival and Phantom Of The Opera Star, Paul Massel Guest Pianist: Doreen Uren Simmons Paul Massel: The wonderful, the talented, Paul Massel. He was our very first professional guest artist and his love and dedication toward his music was surpassed only by his ultimate joy of sharing it with others. Over the years, Paul became one of the TYS's strongest supporters and his passion for his music served as an inspiration to the young singers who had the opportunity to sing with Paul. He is a true Canadian success story, both in his professional life and in his personal life. In April 2000, Paul Massel became Rev. Paul Martin Massel, proving that the musical experience and the spiritual experience are very intricately connected in those that possess a profound sensitivity and understanding of our existence. Paul is one of those very special human beings and we thank him for sharing his enormous gift of music and of love with us. Concert: "From Broadway, With Love" Sunday, April 16, 1989 Guest Artists: Stratford Festival and Phantom Of The Opera Star, Paul Massel Stratford Festival and Shaw Festival Star, Karen Skidmore Guest Pianist: Chuck Homewood Paul Massel and Karen Skidmore: TYS Conductor Rosanne Simunovic has always been a big fan of the Stratford Festival and two of its major stars in the 1980's...Paul Massel & Karen Skidmore. In addition to being enormously talented, Paul and Karen are both inspiring role models that every young singer should strive to emulate. Therefore, this concert was produced with a great amount of joy and enthusiasm, thanks, in great part, to both Paul and Karen. They had just completed a successful run on Broadway in New York with the Tony nominated Canadian Production of "The Mikado" and Paul had just recently been told that he landed the role of Andre, the theatre manager in the Canadian Production of "Phantom Of the Opera". Their brilliant performances combined with their brilliant staging ideas, were extremely appreciated by both the TYS members and the audience. This concert featured musical excerpts from "Brigadoon", "Guys and Dolls", "Carousel" and "The Music Man" and, to this day, remains the most innovative in staging techniques. 1987-1988 Concert Season Concert: "A Purrfect Ten Evening" Sunday, April 10, 1988 Guest Artist: Canadian "Cats" Stars , Greg Bond, Larry Herbert with Lona Davis on Keyboard Greg, Larry and Lona: It was the "talk of the town" in Timmins when the Timmins Youth Singers presented two star performers and the principal keyboardist from the hit Canadian production of "Cats"...Greg Bond, Larry Herbert and Lona Davis. Even though there were many excellent stars in the musical "Cats", Rosanne Simunovic singled out both Larry and Greg because of their extremely versatile background, sensing that their combined charisma would create a concert to remember. Little did she know that Larry and Greg were, in fact, the very best of friends and shared a dressing room throughout their tenure with the "Cats" production. They were as excited to perform together as she was to secure them as guest artists. As well, Lona Davis' keyboard skills were only surpassed by her very supportive and engaging personality. The concert was truly magical....sold out weeks in advance...and, more important, was the last time that an audience would have the truly inspiring experience of seeing the late Greg Bond perform. Greg died a year later, of a brain tumor, on April 8, 1989, but his generous and ebullient nature and his special musical skills will remain forever in our memories. Showcased songs from this concert are on Scenes From A Dream: Act One Scene 4: We Beseech Thee Act One Scene 11: Jellicle Cats Act One Scene 13: Skimbleshanks Back to Top

Saturday, December 4th, 2000 Guest Artists: World Class A Cappella Pop Artists, The Essentials, comprised of singers Joon Nah, Joe Oliva, Daniel Speck and Bob Van Gieson The Essentials: It was a very special night as The Essentials and the Timmins Youth Singers created some very special Christmas magic for the Timmins audience. The concert was an early sell-out and Essentials manager Mark Watson is credited for creating a wonderful audio-visual experience. Below, you will find out how The Essentials and the Timmins Concert Singers "discovered" each other. 1999 - 2000 CONCERT SEASON Concert: "Pop Into Spring!" Saturday, April 8th, 2000 Guest Artists: World Class A Cappella Pop Artists, The Essentials, comprised of singers Joon Nah, Joe Oliva, Daniel Speck and Bob Van Gieson The Essentials: It was the summer of 1998 and TCS conductor Rosanne Simunovic was on vacation with her family, enjoying the sights and the sounds of Toronto Ontario's Harbourfront. However, the sounds won out over the sights as she heard the "most amazing live a cappella singing" outside the Queen's Quay(Harbourfront's shopping area). She and her family immediately dropped what they were doing and joined the fast gathering crowd outside for an afternoon that remained in her memory for two years. Then, in 1999 Rosanne decided...."It's time to introduce these wonderful musicians to Timmins...they won't believe it!" And sure enough, Timmins went wild and, as a result, the "Pop Into Spring" created such a demand that the Timmins Youth Singers & The Essentials made another performing date for Christmas 2000. Also, two of their combined songs from this concert, "River Of Dreams" and "Lean On Me", superbly arranged by Essentials' Joon Nah, were featured on the Scenes From A Dream CD. Showcased songs from this concert are on Scenes From A Dream: Act One Scene 2: River Of Dreams Act One Scene 5: It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing) Act Two Scene 1: Lean On Me Back to Top |

Concert: "Once Upon A Christmas" Sunday, November 25, 1990 Guest Artist: World Class Canadian Tenor, Michael Schade Now one of the leading Mozart tenors on the stage today Michael Schade performs regularly at the Vienna Staatsoper, Salzburg Festival, Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, l'Opéra de Paris, San Francisco Opera, Hamburg State Opera, the Chicago Lyric Opera and the Los Angeles Opera. Recent appearances include Don Giovanni (Salzburg Festival), Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (San Francisco, Vienna), Die Fledermaus (Vancouver),Viaggio a Reims, (Toronto), Die Zauberflöte (Los Angeles, Vienna), a televised concert of Alexander's Feast in Vienna with Concentus Musicus directed by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, with whom he also performed and recorded Orlando Paladino. Concerts took him to San Francisco, New York and Ann Arbor, solo recitals to Amsterdam, Stuttgart, Feldkirch and Prague, duo recitals to London, with Barbara Bonney, and to Geneva, Brussels and Edinburgh with Russell Braun.
An extensive recording artist, Mr. Schade's most recent St. Matthew Passion (Teldec), conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt won the 2002 GRAMMY for Best Choral Performance. He has also recorded with conductors Claudio Abbado, John Eliot Gardiner, Helmut Rilling, Sir Colin Davis, Wolfgang Sawallisch, and Trevor Pinnock. His recently released solo recording on Hyperion is devoted to Lieder and Art Songs. Future releases include Orlando Paladino with Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Die Meistersinger with Ben Heppner, conducted by Christian Thielemann. Rosanne Simunovic first met this amazingly gifted tenor in December 1985. At that time, Michael came to perform as a tenor ringer for the Timmins Youth Singers. He was still a student at the University of Western Ontario; however his superb vocal gifts were very evident, even at that very young age. At the time, Rosanne said that "this young man is going to be a huge star". Sure enough, in 1990, Michael's star was starting to rise and shine very brightly; yet, he still found the time to return to Timmins as a Guest Artist to perform in this concert. This concert was a creative "work of art" for Rosanne; the combination of Disney numbers and secular music in the first half, "A Fairy Tale Christmas", had the audience transported to a fantasy world. In the second half, The Story Of Bethlehem", Michael Schade and the Timmins Youth Singers performed excerpts from "The Messiah", as well as sacred Christmas music. The concert was an inspiring experience that will remain indelible in the minds of all who attended or participated. Concert: "Christmas In The Country " Saturday, November 28, 1993 Guest Artist: Country Artist, Tim Scott Tim Scott: It pays to watch telethons...and in particular, the Stan Fowler Christmas Telethon in 1992. That marked the occasion when TYS Conductor "discovered" local new country artist, Tim Scott. He had a wonderful, refreshing musical talent...a blend of country and pop...that was slowly eclipsing the traditional country sound. New country music was sweeping the airwaves and was becoming a great big business; Rosanne Simunovic made it her business as well....creating an innovative traditional Christmas show that inspired, rocked...and, most of all, entertained. They interspersed their own arrangements with selections performed by the Timmins Youth Singers and, at times, combined with the TYS to the delight of a very enthusiastic audience. The concert also introduced the stellar talents of Sue Steel and Gordon Simpson on piano and keyboard respectively. Their outstanding arrangements for this show and those to follow added a very special element to the entire evening. Concert: "Once Upon A Christmas" Sunday, November 25, 1990 Guest Artist: World Class Canadian Counter-Tenor, Daniel Taylor
Daniel Taylor performed as a tenor ringer for several seasons with the Timmins Youth Singers. He has always been a gifted and disciplined musician and contributed greatly to the success of numerous Timmins Youth Singers' Concerts.
His parents lived in Timmins for several years before they moved to Ottawa...Daniel's birthplace! However, the Timmins ties remained strong. In the late eighites through his participation in the Ontario Youth Choir, Daniel met Timmins OYC member Lauri Ann Loreto who pointed Daniel in the direction of the TYS.
However, in 1990, during the TYS concert featuring Michael Schade as guest artist, the choir also featured Daniel Taylor performing an aria from the "Messiah". It was a wonderful and exciting memory watching both Michael and Daniel perform at this concert as everyone knew that very soon both their names would be internationally recognized in the world of professional music. Thanks Daniel for your hours of musical contribution to the Timmins Youth Singers.
The Canadian counter-tenor Daniel Taylor completed his undergraduate studies in English, philosophy and music at McGill University (Montreal) and his graduate work in religion and music at the University of Montreal, furthering his studies with the leaders of Britain's baroque specialist groups. He continues now with Jan Simons and Michael Chance.
Daniel Taylor's Glyndebourne debut in the 1997 Peter Sellar's production of Händel's Theodora was greeted with critical praise and followed on an equally successful operatic debut in the Jonathan Miller production of Händel's Rodelinda (recorded for EMI). His other operatic roles have included Nerone in Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea, Eustazio and Gottfredo in Händel's Rinaldo, Athamas in Händel’s Semele, and Tolomeo in Händel's Giulio Cesare. In addition to opera, Taylor's repertory includes a wide range of sacred works, lute songs, and contemporary works such as Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and Sakamoto's Life. He has performed with many leading orchestras and ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants, Les Violons du Roy, Les Voix Humaines, the American Bach Soloists, the Philadelphia Orchestra, Collegium Vocale de Ghent, the Academy of Ancient Music, the English Baroque Soloists and others.

Rob's Official WebsiteNumerous TYS Concerts between 1988-1991 Born in Toronto, Ontario, Rob has always been involved in music and the theatre.
At the early age of 4, he was on stage playing guitar and singing in front of thousands of people as part of his Uncle's Sunday morning church service. Throughout his childhood, he continued to participate in choirs and school plays.
Rob was a member of the first graduating class of Canterbury High School of the Arts - Ottawa's own School of the Arts. While at Canterbury he fell in love with musical theatre.
At McGill University, Rob started his professional career as a chorister with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. However singing wasn't his only passion. It was while living in Montreal that Rob toured to Charlottetown... which is where he met his wife-to-be - Stephanie Graham (they were very happily married in 2004!). Rob and Stephanie have appeared together in a number of productions, most notably those produced by Smile! productions, designed specifically for senior citizens. The Apple Tree was a fun, two-person show, highlighting Adam and Eve (played by, you guessed it, Rob and Steph!).
Rob currently resides in Toronto, Ontario. He continues to do on-stage productions, is writing his own musicals (two are almost complete), and does the occasional commercial. His current engagement is as the Genie in Disney Aladdin Jr., playing in Niagara Falls at the Greg Frewin Theatre.
Many wonderful concert performances were the result of Rob's memorable contributions to the TYS stage. His dynamic and charismatic personality won over audiences time and again and his vocal showcases will remain one of the major concert highlights of the Timmins Youth Singers.
